Progression that actually progresses
The fun of the genre is getting stronger. In fantasy worlds the Game Master levels characters up after real victories and hands out abilities that fit them. Separately, every character has a skill tree: skills grow when you use them, and at levels 3 and 5 they unlock perks, like advantage on certain rolls.
Your stats sit in a panel at the top of the screen, so you can always see your health, money, inventory and skills, and the Game Master holds you to them.
Make your character worth reincarnating
Isekai characters are defined by what they bring from their old life. Give yours a specific past (a burnt-out nurse, a speedrunner, a kebab shop owner) and lean on it: knowledge from Earth is a great source of clever plans, and clever plans earn dice bonuses.
With friends, decide how you're connected. Did you all die in the same bus crash? Are you rival summoned heroes? A shared origin gives the Game Master hooks to tie your stories together.
