Tokyo New Life

An AI life abroad RPG for you and up to 3 friends

A tiny flat, a new language, and a city of 14 million strangers.

Comic strip of a round in Tokyo New Life: Maya, brazilian language-school student collecting neighborhood recipes; and Theo, irish junior designer learning to survive tokyo office etiquette.
Every round can be painted as a comic strip like this one, following each player's part of the story.

A round in Tokyo New Life

Each player types what their character does. When everyone's in, the Game Master answers all of you at once.

Maya I ask the shopkeeper where the recycling goes, then mime a bottle doing a little dance.

Theo I bow to the landlord and offer him my commuter pass by mistake. It’s been a long week.

Rain ticks against the tiny Koenji kitchen window as you face a mountain of plastic bottles and packaging. Maya, your bottle dance earns a startled laugh from the shopkeeper, who points out the right collection net and teaches you the word for plastic. Theo, your bow is impeccable; the commuter pass is less convincing, but the landlord chuckles and shows you the neighborhood rubbish calendar instead. By the time you return upstairs, you’ve learned two useful words, one new pickup day, and that your landlord has a surprisingly good sense of humor. What do you do?

How a game works

Open a room in Tokyo New Life, share the six-letter code, and everyone makes a character. Each round you all type what you do; the AI Game Master rolls the dice for anything risky, keeps track of your money, belongings, health and skills, and tells one shared story that reacts to every player. It remembers what happened earlier, so choices come back around. Play solo on your phone, or with friends on a call.
