The Road to Rome

An AI historical RPG for you and up to 3 friends

Born a peasant in 80 BC. Die a legend of the Republic, or die trying.

Comic strip of a round in The Road to Rome: Livia, a sharp-tongued subura washerwoman seeking influence through the law; and Damon, a greek-born freedman’s son chasing glory and steady pay in the legions.
Every round can be painted as a comic strip like this one, following each player's part of the story.

A round in The Road to Rome

Each player types what their character does. When everyone's in, the Game Master answers all of you at once.

Livia I’ll expose the recruiter’s fake seal before anyone signs away their life.

Damon I’ll keep the crowd calm. If that fails, I’m hiding behind the biggest man.

You spot the recruiter’s seal, Livia: the eagle is stamped backward, and his grand offer suddenly smells more like a scam than a road to glory. Your sharp question draws a laugh from the tavern—and makes the recruiter reach for his knife. Damon, you step between him and the crowd, turning your broad shoulders into a wall while announcing that nobody gets recruited until everyone has had another cup. The knife stays sheathed; the recruiter’s hired muscle backs down, embarrassed by the room’s sudden attention. You’ve won witnesses, a little goodwill, and a dangerous man’s memory. What do you do?

How a game works

Open a room in The Road to Rome, share the six-letter code, and everyone makes a character. Each round you all type what you do; the AI Game Master rolls the dice for anything risky, keeps track of your money, belongings, health and skills, and tells one shared story that reacts to every player. It remembers what happened earlier, so choices come back around. Play solo on your phone, or with friends on a call.
